I'm big on hobbies. I have several, and tend to do them in spurts. Take reading, for example. I can go months without picking up a book, then read like a maniac for a couple of months. Since mid-October, I read four new novels, and re-read a total of 13 old favourites of mine. I ordered a new one via Chapters.ca, and tried to start one recommended by hubby, but I think I'm all read out for now.
Digi-scrapping is another one of those hobbies for me. I'll scrap every day for a few weeks. Then poof. My inspiration is gone, and it doesn't matter how long I look at a picture, I just can't do anything with it.
And I'm pretty sure now I'll have another new hobby to add: knitting.
That's right. I'm in the process of learning to knit. Scary thought, eh? A colleague does a tonne of different types of needle work, and was recently telling me about this type of neckwarmer thingy she knit herself, thinking it would be perfect for the kids. She eventually offered to knit them one, and while we were out buying yarn, also offered to teach me to knit.
So at lunch today I had my first lesson. I have now officially learned to cast on, and I knit a whole row. And the fact I'm this excited about it makes me an even bigger nerd than I was the day I got all excited over a blog comment.
I was about to say that I'm not sure what this has to do with me trying to become a better person... but really, it has lots to do with it! Among other things, I can now knit my children their own neckwarmers (though in all likelihood I may just end up with a bunch of unfinished knitted things that I will have to throw away during spring cleaning two years from now). Oh well. That's yet another challenge, that one!
Off I go! Knit two, purl one, knit two, purl one...

knitting has a lot to do with your challenges. You can't easily surf the net if you're knitting :)

I too, pursue hobbies in spurts. I've been reading like a madwoman over the past few months, to catch up on all of the 'for pleasure' reading I missed out on while in school.
Come to think of it, I do plenty of things in cycles...cleaning, sleeping, eating too much chocolate, deciding to exercise.
Perhaps you may be the same way? I've come to accept it - you can't be constant all the time - where would the fun be in that?
Good job on the knitting though! My mother attempted to teach me, I told her I'd stick to paint by numbers.
