I'm putting my foot down

So I had a long chat with hubby tonight. And before this job drains the daylights out of me, and before I start regretting my decision, I am cutting the hours I'm putting in.

I have to sit down with my boss next week and go over my objectives, and I will let her know that I will absolutely have to be out of the door by 5. And on days when she's not there, I'll be heading out an extra 10 minutes early. That will make sure I'm home at the latest by 6 pm every night.

I had a bit of a breakdown tonight just thinking about whether this is all worth it.

I want to work. I want to have a really successful career. I also want to know how the hell these women who work 10 hour days raise their children. I must be missing something.

Good for you for putting your foot down Tanya.
As a mother, you have every right to talk to your boss and explain your need to limit your hours to 8 a day.
Maybe she would be open to the working from home bit too, if any of your assignments are possible to complete after your girls go to bed?
That way you can still be accomplishing your objectives and seeing your kids more than 45 minutes a day.
I don't know how those women work 10 hour work days with children either.....I wouldn't be able to do it on top of the commute.
Working more doesn't necessarily cut down on workload....it just makes people take on too much and raises the bar higher each time.
Setting boundaries is always a good idea.

- Wise advice from the 22 year old with no children who only works 30 hours a week (and is more sane than she was when she worked 50+ hours)

P.S. It's Amy

ah, hun, you'll get it figured out. You are still trying to get the feel of the place. I think you do need to set boundaries now though, before it becomes an expectation. I don't know how some work what they do either. You can't be commited to your family if you are working 10 hour days.
